Address: Chapel House, Gelli, Pembrokeshire, SA66 7HR.
This picturesque and romantic old stone cottage is situated above the "Afon Syfai" or "River Syfynwy" within the rural community of Gelli, above the Baptist Chapel. (Map ref. 196082)
Consists of open-pal sitting, dining and kitchen area on ground floor, with bathroom leading off the dining area. The kitchen has an AGA, electric hob and microwave. It also has a fridge and washing machine. The cooking area is within an inglenook fireplace so beware of the beam! The airer over the AGA makes drying clothes quick and easy, although there is a rotary drier outside. Bathroom has a shower over the bath and a heated towel rail. In the sitting area there is a TV, video player and a double bed-settee and electric fire in the fireplace if needed. Upstairs there are two attic space bedrooms each with twin beds. Both bedrooms have limited head clearance with the smaller bedroom having a maximum ceiling height of 4 ft 9 ins. But it is very cosy and would accommodate children. The cottage can therefore sleep six, but with a squash!
Outside there is a shed containing a chest freezer for all those fish, and patio furniture for your evening drinks in the sun! There is a drying rack for waders, also in the shed.
Two weeks of fishing are auctioned for the benefit of the North Atlantic Salmon Trust; therefore there just may be two other anglers fishing the same week as you, but there are plenty of pools and lies to accommodate up to eight anglers at a time.
The cottage is three miles from Clarbeston Road railway station. (Ref. 209015) It is three miles north of the A40 at Caneston Bridge, which is just west of Narberth. It is nine miles from Haverfordwest, and approximately fifteen miles from the beaches of St. Brides Bay and the Pembrokeshire National Park. Within the locality, at Llawhaden is the oldest Hospital in the country, (c.1263: ref. 172065), and Llawhaden castle (ref 175073). The Pembrokeshire coastal path walk is internationally known, and runs uninterrupted for 198 miles from Amroth to Poppet Sands, and the Landsker path is on your doorstep. The Prescelli hills (origin of Stonehenge's rocks) and other historic sites such as Pentre Ifan (bronze age burial site) and St David's Cathedral, and the Castles of Pembroke, Manorbier and Carew are all within range.
Take the A40 to Narberth. Cross the A478, and turn right after half a mile on the B4313 towards Llanycefyn and New Moat. Go past Bethesda and at the bottom of the hill turn left just past Llyn Coed (on left) and Cnwc-Y-Fedwen (right, unmarked) farm. Do not go under the railway. Pass over the river (E Cleddau), and turn left at the next junction. (50 metres) After 200 metres the road crosses the Syfynwy, and then goes past the Baptist Chapel on the left. Church House is above the Chapel.
Sorry: No Smoking in the cottage.
